Everytime I create a new patternI have to explore its potentialities, see what colours fit it better, what beads look the best and where and how I can add them.
As for 'Cassiopea', I tried quite a lot of combinations.
Choosing the right thread was already a task: I love bright colours, such as turquoise, green, blue...but this time I stuck to grey...: everytime I tried to figure out the model, I couldn't but imagine it in grey...
So, there I went, starting with a pearl grey, very light
I tatted these using a polyester thread Penny 20 Ice colour (Ghiaccio) .
Beads are seed beads Preciosa 11/0in silver -pink colour.
To finish them I put an iridescent transparent round 4mm. crystal, which I replied in the hook decoration.
The pearl grey version was the easiest: matching grey with pink is even too easy...
I love this burgundy. In the finish frame I matched the steady colour thread with a nice very thin purple-gold thread: the result is a 'glittering' burgundy, which needs no seed beads addings.
And another burgundy, with drop beads in the inner frame (Miyuki 3mm drop beads orchid iridescent)
and Preciosa seed beads in the external frame (pink silver lined).
Drop beads are really perfect to fill empty spaces, but somehow fade in large spaces.
These drop beads have a wonderful iridescent colour, though, and that green touch looks so perfect!
These two samples were tatted with a beautiful dark grey polyester thread (Penny 20 'perla') and enriched with seed beads 11/0 pink and light burgundy silver lined.
To add groups of three seed beads in the inner frame gave a beautiful result, I love this version.
The small 2mm. silver tubes inspired me to tat this silver-silver version: I wanted a really sparkly galaxy! As you can see, I put the little tubes beads in groups of three on the outer frame and on the inner frame, and I also filled the small central loops by adding groups of threes beads on each ring side.
This pattern is Cassiopea's first variation, which is different from the version you see in my previous pictures.
Another result I obtained working with black thread.
The beads you see here are Miyuki seed beads 11/0 in Azure colour: it's a transparent black opaque glass colour, with a touch of blue.
The whole looks a little 'naked', and maybe adding same colour drop beads in the center would result better.
Now, I really hope I gave you some ideas as for tatting a new pattern, or combining threads and colours.
The pattern you see in this article is available in my Etsy shop, both with English and with Italian explanation text: it's a double pattern, containing both versions of these earrings, a 2 in 1 pattern actually.
