The Yin-Yang earrings free pattern

Since my Hanako necklace free pattern was so much appreciated, here's my second free pattern for the Yin-Yang earrings which match the necklace perfectly.
These delicate tiny earrings are really easy to tat, and can be considered as a valid solution whenever you need a pair of earrings to match a tatted necklace.

This beautiful thread I used here is a DMC Diamond thread in black, but a Sunlight poly thread will also be perfect.

This DMC thread actually looks much better than it shows in pictures and I love its shiny effect, but I also find it quite expensive and not so easy to tat.
Sunlight thread has the same thickness, it's easy to work with, and much cheaper, though you may not find it in the same colour.

This pattern is tatted using two shuttles: as you can see the design of the two earrings is quite deceiving: they look the same but they are not. So please be really careful that you tat them correctly.

The basic modules in the pattern are three:

Base ring: 10knots, 1 picot, 10knots-close. The central rings are connected through their picot in the middle of the flower motif.

Segment: all segments are equals: 7 picots and 9 spaces of 2 knots each

Outside ring: this ring will contain the crystal or pearl we choose to add: it must thus be larger than the others: 10knots, 1 p, 2k, 1p, 2k, 1p., 10k

To get the mirror effect of the Yin Yang design it is necessary to tat the rings and segments in the right order. Follow the numbers very carefully.

This is earring number one, carefully follow the number order: you'll finish the pattern on top, getting back to number 1. That's the point where you'll have to put your earring hook.

You can see the result on the left earring in picture

Here's the second earring: as you see you now have to follow a different sequence. so that the hook could be added between segment 10 and 13.

Here's the second earring.

No need to say that seen from afar the earrings look the same: this precious symmetry and equilibre is a sort of precious secret...

The final size of earrings is around 2cm. wide and 3 cm. long when tatted with DMC Diamond, Sunlight , or Penny 30 threads.

I really hope you'll enjoy this work, and I will be glad if you will post the pictures of your works in the comments below.

Cassiopea variations

Everytime I create a new patternI have to explore its potentialities, see what colours fit it better, what beads look the best and where and how I can add them.

As for 'Cassiopea', I tried quite a lot of combinations.
Choosing the right thread was already a task: I love bright colours, such as turquoise, green, blue...but this time I stuck to grey...: everytime I tried to figure out the model, I couldn't but imagine it in grey...

So, there I went, starting with a pearl grey, very light

I tatted these using a polyester thread Penny 20 Ice colour (Ghiaccio) .
Beads are seed beads Preciosa 11/0in silver -pink colour.
To finish them I put an iridescent transparent round 4mm. crystal, which I replied in the hook decoration.

The pearl grey version was the easiest: matching grey with pink is even too easy...

I love this burgundy. In the finish frame I matched the steady colour thread with a nice very thin purple-gold thread: the result is a 'glittering' burgundy, which needs no seed beads addings.

Another burgundy version with seed beads on the external frame enhancing the pinwheel effect. Seed beads are Preciosa glass seed beads 11/0 in silver-pink colour

And another burgundy, with drop beads in the inner frame (Miyuki 3mm drop beads orchid iridescent)
and Preciosa seed beads in the external frame (pink silver lined).

Drop beads are really perfect to fill empty spaces, but somehow fade in large spaces.
These drop beads have a wonderful iridescent colour, though, and that green touch looks so perfect!

These two samples were tatted with a beautiful dark grey polyester thread (Penny 20 'perla') and enriched with seed beads 11/0 pink and light burgundy silver lined.
To add groups of three seed beads in the inner frame gave a beautiful result, I love this version.

The small 2mm. silver tubes inspired me to tat this silver-silver version: I wanted a really sparkly galaxy! As you can see, I put the little tubes beads in groups of three on the outer frame and on the inner frame, and I also filled the small central loops by adding groups of threes beads on each ring side.

This pattern is Cassiopea's first variation, which is different from the version you see in my previous pictures.
Another result I obtained working with black thread.

The beads you see here are Miyuki seed beads 11/0 in Azure colour: it's a transparent black opaque glass colour, with a touch of blue.
The whole looks a little 'naked', and maybe adding same colour drop beads in the center would result better.

Now, I really hope I gave you some ideas as for tatting a new pattern, or combining threads and colours.

The pattern you see in this article is available in my Etsy shop, both with English and with Italian explanation text: it's a double pattern, containing both versions of these earrings, a 2 in 1 pattern actually.
