Gaëlle's welcome gift!

             Happy tatting !

Yin-Yang necklace free pattern

This necklace is probably one of the most beautiful I have tatted: I took inspiration from a classical pattern, to which I simply added two extra elements.

I tatted this one using a very thin polyester Sunlight thread n. 30 (corresponding to a cotton thread Lizbeth 40) in golden colour.

As finition I added pale blue Czech half-crystals.
I chose not to charge the lace with many beads, since using a very thin thread and adding many picots already give a rich effect.

Now, the following instructions will help you tat the necklace you see in picture. Anyway, to make it even more simple, you can choose to avoid tatting ring 11, which is the one carrying the glass bead.

The whole work is composed of two elements: one ring (A) and one segment (B) combined together and repeated. The number of knots (double stitches) and picots are the same in all rings and segments.

You can tat this with two shuttles, or one shuttle and one ball thread (I always suggest two shuttles is better...)

Start with ring 1, as you see in diagram : 10k.- 1pic.- 10k.- close
proceed with segment 2: 3k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 2k.- 1p.- 3k.-
Ring 3, joined to Ring 1
Segment 4
Ring 5, joined to rings 1 and 3
Ring 6
Segment 7

Segments are all the same, but you can make a longer one at the sides (segment 2)

Now repeat module 5-6-7 until you reach the length you want.

Once you finished this half of the necklace, which will be the upper part of the lace, you'll have to tat the lower part going backward:
Segment 7
one ring joined to the previous,
Segment, reverse work
Ring joined to previous
(instead of tatting 7-5-6 you will tat elements 7-5-7-5)

Tatting the lower part we will have to add the 2 extra elements.
(The following diagram shows you the work upside down, so, don't get confused about it, it's only for practical reasons.)

In tatting my necklace I chose to insert the extra elements starting after the fifth segment, but you can choose to start wherever you want, as long as you have a symmetric result.

Referring to diagram: after segment 7, tat ring 8 joined to rings underneath, then ring 9, joined at the base of underneath couple of rings, ring 10.
Before tatting ring 11 I suggest you should make a half knot on shuttle two thread, so that you may start ring 11 right in the center of  the previous group of rings base.
Start again with segment 12, rings 8-9-10-11, and proceed from 12 on again .

Remember you must have the same number of 'flat' module on both ends of the necklace, so don't forget to count!

This necklace is perfect with the beautiful 'Hanako' earrings.

If anyone of you wants to tat a beautiful set, here's the link to my pattern in my Etsy shop:

You can find the pattern both with English and with Italian explanation text.

The black version you see in picture was tatted using DMC Diamant black thread, a beautiful thread, though quite expensive and delicate...

The earrings are my original design, and actually display a Yin-Yang pattern: soon to be found in my Etsy shop!

Hope youìll enjoy tatting this necklace: though really easy you'll get a wonderful result!

Please leave a comment, and please share your creations!

Happy tatting!

Hanako Mandala pattern

This Mandala pattern is one of my favourites: I started tatting it with no notion what the result would be. I had no idea of its final shape, so I just kept on adding rings and arches, just figuring out what the correct number of stitches would be to get a perfect round and flat shape. At the end I obtained a perfect result with great satisfaction.

This pattern allows you to complete your work without ever having to cut threads: this means a more compact work, no waste of time and thread and no 'weak points'.

I tatted these earrings using a polyester thread Sunlight 30 in golden colour.
This thread is very thin and still easy to tat.

As you can notice, the pattern offers you many possible variations as to how, where and what beads and crystals you can enrich it with.
In this case I chose not to load the jewes with too many beads, since I wanted the lace itself to be exhalted.

The colour of this thread is very soft, somehow turning towards a silvery shade, so I prefered using soft tone coloured half-crystals and small 11/0 Preciosa golden coloured seed beads to lighten gold.

For this earring I used an Isamet gold colour thread. This is a very thin thread you have to double, in order to get a thread which is about a Lizbeth n. 40 thread thick.
I was curious to see how the resulting effect would be like, using such a bright gold colour: now, the jewel really looks like a filigree, and you can be sure its weight is close to zero.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to enrich it with crystals or beads, I believe it's already beautiful, just like it is...

This is yet another thread I purchased in London, this, too, has to be doubled to get a n. 40 thickness, but is much easier to work with than Isamet: I have many colours available, this is a burgundy-gold one.

As you can see, this pattern gives you beautiful and perfect results, either enriched with crystals, and left bare as it is...

Finally, here you see it tatted with polyester Penny 20 thread: the result is, of course , much larger (approx 7cm. diam). Perfect for all big earrings lovers, like me. The rings you get using this thread allow you to decorate the pattern with bigger crystals, such as bicone 4mm. or 4mm. glass beads.
