Hanako Mandala pattern

This Mandala pattern is one of my favourites: I started tatting it with no notion what the result would be. I had no idea of its final shape, so I just kept on adding rings and arches, just figuring out what the correct number of stitches would be to get a perfect round and flat shape. At the end I obtained a perfect result with great satisfaction.

This pattern allows you to complete your work without ever having to cut threads: this means a more compact work, no waste of time and thread and no 'weak points'.

I tatted these earrings using a polyester thread Sunlight 30 in golden colour.
This thread is very thin and still easy to tat.

As you can notice, the pattern offers you many possible variations as to how, where and what beads and crystals you can enrich it with.
In this case I chose not to load the jewes with too many beads, since I wanted the lace itself to be exhalted.

The colour of this thread is very soft, somehow turning towards a silvery shade, so I prefered using soft tone coloured half-crystals and small 11/0 Preciosa golden coloured seed beads to lighten gold.

For this earring I used an Isamet gold colour thread. This is a very thin thread you have to double, in order to get a thread which is about a Lizbeth n. 40 thread thick.
I was curious to see how the resulting effect would be like, using such a bright gold colour: now, the jewel really looks like a filigree, and you can be sure its weight is close to zero.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to enrich it with crystals or beads, I believe it's already beautiful, just like it is...

This is yet another thread I purchased in London, this, too, has to be doubled to get a n. 40 thickness, but is much easier to work with than Isamet: I have many colours available, this is a burgundy-gold one.

As you can see, this pattern gives you beautiful and perfect results, either enriched with crystals, and left bare as it is...

Finally, here you see it tatted with polyester Penny 20 thread: the result is, of course , much larger (approx 7cm. diam). Perfect for all big earrings lovers, like me. The rings you get using this thread allow you to decorate the pattern with bigger crystals, such as bicone 4mm. or 4mm. glass beads.
